There are quite a number of reasons for my total absence from Sulekha for the past few weeks. And believe it or not, one of them happens to be an erotic one. But before you one- track minded readers hop, skip and jump to some kamasutric conclusions, let me first relate the few good reasons. Only then will I enlighten you on the promiscuous italicized word
.
Reason No.1:
I guess everyone knows about our transfer from the West to the East coast so obviously there’s no point in blah blah blahing about it anymore. Therefore let’s move on to………..
Reason No. 2:
When PK Sundar pondered on the whys and the wherefores of my non-appearance, he was not far from the truth. Only I am not writing my second book but editing it. The manuscript was ready long back but since I was so distraught with the commercialization in the publishing field and so disheartened with the marketing process, it lay languishing in my computer for three years. I even tried my luck at the KGF but no Ghoda, whether Kala or Safed was willing to bet on me
.
It was then that Ammar came into the picture. It was by chance he read my first book and liked it enough to suggest sending the second one to a self publishing firm. Then he not only sponsored half the amount but also took the responsibility to act as my literary agent cum marketing manager. Thanks to him instead of the exotic cashews that I doled out from my pocket for my first book, the second costed me peanuts. Also his firm faith in my writing not only earned him a mention in my acknowledgment but also renewed my confidence as an author
. So here I am, a rejuvenated writer, already preparing to embark on my next venture, which naturally will be The Great Indian Novel, which I’m certain will be eligible for the Bookers. Of course, before that I also plan to make a trip to the moon
. Until that happens I eagerly await the release of my second book……...
Reason No.3:
……...and while the waiting continues, life gives me another jhatka
. Btw, all these jhatkas are supposed to be pleasant ones so I’m not complaining okay?
While Shanker and I were still getting over playing the role of Packers and Movers we were thrust into a brand new one- that of becoming Wedding Planners. You see, my daughter has decided to dive into the sea of matrimony. Although the father and the mother of the bride feel that she is still too young to take the plunge, surprisingly she and the would be damaad are quite convinced that the time is just about right
. And since my son will also be starting his internship soon and will not be available to attend a Monsoon wedding (which we had initially planned) we may as well have a May one.
I know, I know, it will be sultry and sizzling and searing and scorching but then don’t all big fat Indian weddings end up as steamy affairs?
So as we are getting ready to be thoroughly barbecued, both mentally and physically, the process of a tender marination has already begun. My daughter chucked her hectic job with Pantaloons the moment we were transferred, although she could have stayed back in Mumbai and continued designing till the D day. So at present she is, as the Delhites would say, absolutely vela and is leisurely soaking in the pleasures of a stress free life
. I know giving up one’s promising career does sound a bit medieval in the present times but considering the frantic and the chaotic life that she led in Mumbai, secretly I’m thrilled that she decided to take this sensible step. Moreover it is not as if she’s planning never to work again because she does have an entire lifetime ahead to pursue her dreams.
As for me, the joys of pampering a child again, reminds me of my early parenthood days when if ever I got frustrated, just a smile from a chubby face immediately translated the fact that domestic engineering can never be an unrewarding chore
. And on her part I’m guessing that the pleasures of being mollycoddled probably more than makes up for the hefty salary that she once brought home.
.
Reason No.4:
……….is the reason that most of you are eagerly waiting to read
. Surprisingly this also deals with Sundar’s nostradamical eye for detail. You see, when initially all the above reasons suddenly cropped up I decided I’d post a blog once in three weeks and the rest of the time read and comment. Unfortunately I’m not able to do so, the reason being that inevitably whenever I am free I am not able to log in, thanks to the erratic net connection
. Anyway, yesterday I met a friend at the Bhubaneswar Club who wanted to know if the connection in our house had stabilized.
‘Not yet’ I said, ‘it’s still very…..’
‘Yes, I remember you telling me that it was very erotic’.

Reason No.4 therefore also happens to be the origin of this blog
.
.
Reason No.5:
……...…and so while I’m still waiting for Ms. Internet to stabilize her sexy moods so that instead of feebly flirting with Sulekha now and then I can continue with my intense relationship as before, I decided to do something worthwhile. And that something happened to be gardening. All nature lovers will agree with me that this is indeed one of the best exercises to keep oneself mentally and physically fit. And also for the first time in the history of nature, a daughter of Orissa is getting up early enough to watch the sun rise.
I don’t know if this sudden sprouting of green fingers has anything to do with our posting in Mumbai. Probably has, because although initially we’ve always lived in bungalows with legroom that guarantees one room for every leg, this is probably the first time we have realized the true value of space. If not for any other reason but for this, I think a Mumbai posting should be made compulsory for all government servants
.
Reason No.6:
…….......is the last one. It also happens to be a hopeful one
. I thought someone or the other would again lodge a missing complaint in Sulekha thereby inducing me to hunt out the Mahapatras and the Dases who would in turn raise heaven and hell to somehow facilitate my next comeback. But alas!
Nobody missed me enough to do that so I took it upon myself to make a gatecrashing reappearance. So this time friends, I’m back. Not with a bang or a dang. But with a pang. So much for wishful thinking!

P.S. And Oh.....by the way, EVERYONE's inivited! For the wedding of course. Even those that didn't miss me

Hi,
Madame, first things first... CONGRATULATIONS!! for all the pleasant 'jhatkas' u r getting these days... i m glad i came online n read ur post... feeling very happy for u :)
regardless to say, i did miss sulekha n u all, all this time, but was very busy with 'not so pleasant jhakas'... read as 'exams' !!
Even now, not free altogether.. gotta prepare for entrance...
so, a lot has happened in the past 2 months, since i left, u r moving to the west coast (where exactly..if u feel comfortable enugh)… I have been through this shifting n stuff a lot to completely understand what u ‘d be going thru… all u hav on mind is the transfer nd its repercussions… peace be with u ;)
Next… a BOOK… Congrats!!... Finally another dream to come true soon :)
Next… dato’s wedding…shenai nd stuff (though I nevr liked shenai…bores me to death, but considered auspicious, to I generally jhelofy it..) .. apart from the reluctance u have in getting her married, thr must be a certain relief also, juts imagine u dnt hav to worry abt her marriage nymore now :) congrats again :)
That erotic reason was hilarious… misinterpretations can lead to what all stuff!!
Andur net not working.. that’s really irritating…guess it’ll be fyn soon
And last but not the least…I did miss you… :)
Wish you all the best for handling all the pleasant jhatkas with finesse and bliss :)
God Bless
Take care

Hi Nargis,
. I am 'familiar' with such things. I once went with my family to a dhaba on the outskirts of our city. My son though got stuck to his demand of a cola which was not available there. The waiter there came over and conspiratorially, with a wink, said to me, "I know how it feels. I too am 'familiar'. I have one son."
Really 'erotic'
regds.

Hi Nargis,
You are both literary and analytical, almost statistical. Reason no.1, reason no.2 and so on. Good, good. Congrats and greetings for the great wedding news. Venue? Also congrats for the second book under final cooking stages..addition of coconut gratings, some coriander, kadi pathaa and all! I think, when you stop blogging we can presume that you have 20 good news to congratulate you.
cheers
